Nausea During Pregnancy Causes
Having your first child and being about to have your own family is a joy. There is one thing that really destroys the goody-goody image of pregnancy, and that is called morning sickness. Morning sickness appears to just come out of nowhere and strikes pregnant women, but the answer, while not found yet, is just there – related to pregnancy.
Different hormones are being released upon pregnancy to aid it. Since nothing that’s too much remains good, the overflow of these hormones will cause side effects. One of the prime suspects is the hormone called HCG. It means human chronic gonadtrotopin. This particular hormone is first produced by the embryo, then the placenta. It then produces progesterone, which pregnancy needs. In short, progesterone is also a probable cause. Progesterone, especially in higher levels, relax the uterine muscles and helps the woman from giving birth too early. But the relaxing effect can reach the stomach and intestines which allows more acids in the stomach – contributing to nausea and vomiting. Another hormone that can cause nausea and vomiting, especially in early stages of the pregnancy, is estrogen. Estrogen levels rise when the woman starts nursing a baby in her womb.
Vitamin B deficiency is also suggested to play a part in morning sickness. Some women claim that Vitamin B6 supplements relieve the nausea. But this doesn’t necessarily mean deficiency is a cause. In fact, there aren’t really any major differences in B6 levels between women with morning sickness and those without. No one knows how B6 supplements help, but it does. Multivitamins also prevents severe morning sickness. Again, no one understands how, but it helps.
Those hormones are the cause of morning sickness can be a false accusation, as there are other possibilities. These other possibilities, however, are still related to pregnancy. For instance, pregnant women have stronger senses of smell and are more sensitive to odors. Some aromas can be pungent for them and can trigger the gag reflex. While this is a “smelling” issue, it can be attributed to hormones, yet again. The gastrointestinal tracts, as a reaction to the bodily changes during pregnancy, can become more sensitive. Other causes of morning sickness include stress – too much of it. While there isn’t any visible relationship between stress and vomiting, more vomiting can stress out women and the cycle repeats.
The causes of morning sickness have got scientists still scratching their heads, but they know for sure that it doesn’t last the whole pregnancy. By the end of the third month, hormone levels decline, intestinal problems subside, and other causes lay low –you’re your days with morning sickness are over.
